Portrait

The Assignment: In this assignment, I had to take portraits of my cousins.  I felt that this was a little harder because you must take all the lighting into effect.  There cannot be any shadows in the pictures which makes it much more hard for the photographer.  I didn't expect this to be as challenging as it was.  Luckily I had some good talent to work with.  My cousins were very easy to work with and they had fun doing it as well as I did.

Visual Puns

The Assignment: In this GIMP assignment, we were instructed to make visual puns.  I liked this assignment quite a bit because I could use my imagination and personality to work out a visual pun.  This assignment certainly was not the hardest but was one of the most enjoyable.  It was a fun and creative way to learn how to do things on GIMP and in the photography world.

Light Painting

The Assignment: In this assignment, I took light painting pictures.  I liked this style because it allowed me to use a longer shutter speed and be creative with the picture.  I could try and try again until I found something cool.  Sometimes, I would see the picture and immediately think of something else that I could do.  This was by far my favorite style of picture so far because of the creativity and the way that you can use your personality in the pictures.

Event

The Assignment: In this assignment, I had to take pictures of an event.  I chose this week to do it because prom was going on and what better event to take pictures of than senior prom.  This was an easy thing to shoot because everyone was themselves and there were no fake smiles.  That is what it a photographers best friend.  All participants let their guard down and were comfortable.  I felt that I got a lot of good pictures and I chose this one because it was just the guys and they are all so close and great friends for each other.

Still Life

The Assignment:  In this assignment, I took pictures of still life.  The thing that I most liked about this style was the fact that it took a lot of time and effort into setting up the picture.  In an action picture, you don't have time to setup the picture and all of the settings are preset.  With still life,  it took time to get the right angle, the right lighting, and the right exposure.  This was fun to do and it took a lot of thinking and time management.

Context

The Assignment:  In this assignment, I was instructed to take a picture and edit an object or person into the picture that would not usually be there.  Since I am an athlete, I took a picture of the gym and added LeBron James and Mo Williams to the picture.  I felt that this wasn't a very hard thing to do but before doing it, I thought it would be a very hard task.  Also, I had a little fun with it.  I enjoyed finding the pictures and editing them into the picture and see how they fit into it.  Overall, it was a fun assignment and it could be challenging but I only did two athletes, not a lot.

Motion Demo

The Assignment: In this assignment, as a class, we had to take motion blur photo's of our teacher, Mr. Bush.  The hardest part about this was getting the lighting correct.  I finally got a great photo just before our time was up.  I felt that this was a fairly fun assignment because we got to go outside and take action pictures.

Nature

The Assignment: In this assignment, I was instructed to take photos of nature, so I thought that my grandma's gardens would be a beautiful photo.  Since my grandma lives in Sandusky, Ohio, it was going to be tough to do.  Luckily, my family and I went there for Mother's Day.  I brought the camera along and got some good pictures.  This assignment was fun for me because I got to enjoy the scene of my grandma's garden and get some good pictures as well.  In this assignment, it really showed my personality with a lot of bright flowers to go along with a bright personality that I have.  I also thought that this was one of the easier assignments because the lighting was great and all I had to do was take the picture and not worry about the angle, lighting, or even color.  My grandma did most of the work with the beautiful garden that she works ever so hard on.

Panoramic

The Assignment: In this assignment, I was taught how to make a panoramic picture.  When I was told what to do, I immediately thought of the baseball field in which the picture is of.  I liked this assignment because it was a tough photo to edit and it took a little time and effort in completing the challenge.  I also found out that it was very tough to edit the photo when there is different lighting between the photos.  I was able to overcome the adversity and make a good photo out of it.  This was a fun type of picture to shoot.

Macro

The Assignment:  In this assignment, I was able to look around the yard and scout what I was able to take pictures of.  I enjoyed this more than taking action pictures because there is more detail going into it.  When I saw a bee, I immediately thought about getting a picture of a bee on a flower.  When I saw a pretty flower, I immediately thought about taking a picture of it.  In this style of picture, you can be patient and still get a good shot versus an action picture which must be short shutter speed and taken perfectly because there are no retakes.  There is more room to mess up in this style and I felt that that was helpful for me.  In the macro assignment, I was told to get pictures of detailed objects in a macro lens.  Luckily, I had a very nice camera with a macro lens which made this a lot easier for me.  I enjoyed myself while taking these pictures.

Animal

The Assignment: During this assignment, I was instructed to take pictures of animals and how they act throughout the day.  I got a variety of views from a dog that wasn't even mine.  It was very convenient that my family and I were able to dog sit through this past week.  While the dog was with us, I was able to get pictures of her in the bath, fresh out of the bath, resting, playing, etc.  What I learned during this assignment was how patient a photographer must be to get good pictures.  I had a little trouble in that field and got a little frustrated.  I overcame it though and got a couple good pictures.

Gimp Assignment

This assignment taught me how to use GIMP.  I believe that this helped me quite a bit because it was a good leadoff activity to this program.  It taught me well and I imagine myself using this program a lot over the next trimester.  In this, I learned how GIMP works and that is a good way to start off these future assignments.  Not only GIMP itself, but other editing programs as well which is a big part of photography.

Composition Assignment

The Assignment: As a class, we learned eleven different techniques to not only look at a photo, but take one as well.  Coming into the class, I had very little experience with a camera and this assignment brought photography to my attention.  When I was signing up for the class, I thought that this would be an easy "A" and I would be able to blow off some steam that I built up throughout the day.  Boy, was I wrong.  This assignment was a wake-up call for me in this class.  The assignment taught me about different ways to shoot pictures.  I had no clue that there were different techniques to taking pictures and now I realize how tough and frustrating it can get when all the materials you need aren't cooperating with you.
